DIY Air Plant Terrarium

Written By: Fanny Lau

Plants make lovely gifts, as they clean and filter the air that surrounds us.

There is often fear from those who have had poor luck with plants, but the good thing is that there are plants that are lower maintenance – like air plants! If you’re in Vancouver, Welk’s, Figaro’s Garden, and Wonderbucks are great places to find air plants at reasonable prices.

If you’re looking for a gift idea, an air plant terrarium makes a great addition to any home or office space. All you need are some air plants, a few things from your local dollar store and a pinch of creativity.

Supplies

  • Round glass vase
  • Decorative filler
  • Air plant(s)
  • Figures (optional)

Step 1:
Decide what you want the theme of your air plant terrarium to be – keep it simple, or explore themes (i.e. beach, forest, etc.) and pick your decorative filler. Sand, glass, or marbles are all great choices.

Step 2:
Fill round glass vase halfway with the decorative filler of your choice.

Step 3:
Place your air plant(s) into the round glass vase and play around with the placement.

Step 4:
If you’d like, add little figures or knick knacks, based on your preferred theme to the terrarium.

Step 5:
Enjoy your new air plant terrarium! Don’t forget to ‘mist’ your plants using a spray bottle.
